The enlarged Eurovea is now the largest shopping center in Slovakia. It offers a new retail experiece with lots of international brands entering the slovakian market. Shoppers can look forward to exciting new brands and innovative concepts.

Sonae Sierra received two awards and one commendation with: NorteShopping’s expansion – with Galleria and The CookBook -, Plaza Mayor’s transformation project, and the QUARREE Wandsbek refurbishment being the winners of the most prestigious European awards for Shopping Places.

Eurovea will soon become Slovakia’s largest and widest-ranging shopping center, with 320 shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes covering 85,000 sq m. Work is well advanced on the center and surrounding area to complete construction, approvals, and preparations for the grand May opening.

LATEST TRENDS IN ASSET AND CENTER MANAGEMENT

MEC will continue to be responsible for the management of six retail locations in the KGAL Investment Management portfolio. In addition, the management of two further locations will be transferred to MEC. The two companies have now signed an agreement to continue and expand their existing partnership. With the management package transferred to MEC, the Düsseldorf-based retail real estate specialist operates over 130,000 sq m of lettable retail space for KGAL.

DEVELOPMENTS AND TRENDS IN THE OUTLET INDUSTRY

Slovenia’s first Fashion Outlet Village is scheduled to open in 2024/2025. The HG Invest investor group around the Tyrolean company Huter Invest is developing it. Nikolaus Huter, Managing Director of Huter Invest, spoke to ACROSS about the development, the advantages of locations close to the border, and why more and more offline shopping locations should be converted to outlet centers.

STRATEGIES OF RETAILERS

Austria’s largest shopping center kicked off the spring season with two special events. For the first time, Westfield Shopping City Süd teamed up with STYLE UP YOUR LIFE! for the Westfield Club Shopping Night, where selected stores offered extended opening hours exclusively for Westfield Club members. Immediately afterwards, all fashion enthusiasts had the opportunity to discover the latest trends of the season at the Colorful Spring Days.

Following non-food discounter Action’s positive results in net sales growth and successful expansion strategy last year, the retailer is aiming for further market entries in 2025.

LATEST TRENDS

The Broodzaak locations at the Amersfoort, Haarlem and Leiden train stations will be the first to be converted to the new brand at the end of May. In about one and a half years, all Broodzaak stores will have been replaced by TRECK. Alongside an expanded variety in the F&B assortment, guests of TRECK can continue on t heir journey faster thanks to the addition of self-scan checkouts. Current employees of Broodzaak will continue to work for the new brand, with intensive training during the transition.

Last year marked a record year for international food and beverage operators entering the London market, with 21 international concepts opening a debut site in the capital in 2018, according to research from international real estate advisor Savills. Furthermore, the firm notes that this momentum has continued into this year, with eight concepts already open and an additional 11 debut sites already in the committed pipeline.

The redesigning and upgrading of the shopping and experience center in Leipzig/Halle will be carried out at a cost of 40 million euros.

RETAIL TECHNOLOGY

The basic concept of shopping will not significantly change, forecasts Silvio Kirchmair, CEO of umdasch The Store Makers. However, he does anticipate legal intervention. Google, Facebook, and Amazon will all be required to pay their financial obligations to the State.
