URW: New Highlights at Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier and Westfield Shopping City Süd

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Germany welcomes Rhubarb Hospitality Collection as anchor tenant at Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, while Westfield Shopping City Süd celebrates new dining & leisure destination with retail partners and top stakeholders.

Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier welcomes Rhubarb Hospitality Collection (RHC), an international flagship partner, as anchor tenant for the fine dining cluster – The “Elemente” restaurant created by RHC especially for the quarter’s waterfront and the “Air Bar” on the 13th floor bring South American flair and cosmopolitan appeal directly to the river Elbe. The collaboration will further differentiate the food & beverage cluster at Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier. RHC, who originate in London operate luxury event catering and exclusive restaurant and bar concepts in their home city as well as New York and Berlin. Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier has now been chosen to further their international expansion.

URW and RHC are pioneering an unparalleled F&B experience in Hamburg, establishing the urban quarter as a prominent gastronomy hotspot with an international and cosmopolitan profile. The focus on distinctive and experiential dining aligns seamlessly with the prevailing social trend. In the ongoing collaboration for Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, URW is poised to elevate this culinary landscape to new heights, marking another significant milestone in the partnership.

Located on the first floor of the LEE office building directly on the banks of the river, “Elemente”, a captivating South American restaurant, spanning over 1,300 square meters, is currently in the works. Paying homage to the four elements of fire, water, wind, and earth, the restaurant promises to be a tribute to nature. It will seamlessly blend fresh ingredients and bold flavours, taking diners on a gastronomic voyage through South America. Complementing this culinary experience, the interior design will embrace a natural aesthetic, adorned with abundant plants and greenery.

In the same building, on the 13th floor above the office space, “Air Bar” opens its doors on around 750 sq m. The bar is connected to the panorama terrace on the same floor – its crowning highlight, which offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the river Elbe, the port, HafenCity and the rest of Hamburg’s city center.

“Through the partnership with Rhubarb Hospitality Collection and the two flagship concepts at Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, we are setting a new benchmark in the food & beverage landscape in Hamburg. With the culinary delights, the design and the spectacular location directly alongside the river Elbe, together with RHC we are creating an experience that does not yet exist in this form in Hamburg. We are creating further differentiation within the food & beverage offering of the quarter, thereby raising its cosmopolitan appeal to a new level. We are very pleased about the partnership with our new flagship partner RHC,” comments Constantin Wiesmann, Director of Leasing Austria & Germany at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.

“We are delighted to introduce a truly unique concept to Hamburg,” explains Pieter-Bas Jacobse, CEO at Rhubarb Hospitality Collection. “The journey ahead is not just about creating an extraordinary experience for guests but also fostering collaboration with visionary partners. We are thrilled to have the support and creativity of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, our valued partners, who share our commitment to redefining the culinary landscape and making a lasting impact.”

Michael Neuner, Managing Director at Rhubarb Hospitality Collection Germany, adds: “I am thrilled to embark on this exciting venture, bringing a vibrant new dining destination to the heart of Hamburg. We are committed to delivering an extraordinary experience, where the best service, the finest food, and an unparalleled atmosphere come together. Our dedication to excellence will redefine the dining scene in Hamburg, and we can’t wait to share this exceptional journey with our guests.”

Parallel to welcoming a new anchor tenant at Hamburg-Überseequartier, URW´s Westfield Shopping City Süd celebrates its new dining & leisure destination with retail partners and top stakeholders.

On January 30, Austria’s largest shopping and leisure destination presented its retail partners and top stakeholders with the new dining and leisure offering, including Austria’s most modern cinema, in the Westfield SCS multiplex. A high-caliber panel discussed trends and future concepts in leisure and entertainment. Around 150 representatives from politics – led by Member of Parliament Marlene Zeidler-Beck – business and society accepted the invitation to Wiener Neudorf.

Following the grand opening of the new Cineplexx Westfield SCS, Austria’s most modern cinema with premium screens, an IMAX® cinema auditorium and exclusive suites, shortly before Christmas, Westfield Shopping City Süd invited its business and retail partners, representatives from politics, business and society as well as top restaurateurs and entrepreneurs to the new dining and leisure destination in the Westfield SCS multiplex. Westfield Shopping City Süd and its partners are investing around 25 million euros in the modernization of the location and are creating a leisure and entertainment offering that is unique in Austria. The focus of the evening was a high-caliber panel discussion. Under the title “The future of Dining & Leisure starts now”, owner representative Paul Douay, Director of Operations Austria and Germany at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, discussed new approaches and recipes for success for innovative leisure, entertainment and culinary concepts now and in the future with Lucas Langhammer (Managing Director of Cineplexx), Andrea Hirschhofer (Managing Director of KÖÖ), Thomas Beinhardt (Managing Director of Elite Experience) and Ferdinand Querfeld (Querfeld family of coffee houses and restaurants).

Marlene Zeidler-Beck, Member of Parliament in Lower Austria, attended the event as guest of honor on behalf of Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and emphasized the importance of the Westfield SCS Multiplex for the leisure and entertainment offering in Lower Austria in her speech. Herbert Janschka (Mayor of Wiener Neudorf) and Hans Stefan Hintner (Mayor of Mödling) were also among the guests.

“The high level of interest from the retail and business community in our new Dining & Leisure offer shows that we have succeeded – together with our partners – in repositioning the multiplex in Westfield Shopping City Süd. The ever-increasing proportion of dining and entertainment offerings is a key element of our long-term vision. This is also underlined by the overwhelming response we have received from our visitors since opening in mid-December. With almost 60,000 moviegoers in the first 4 weeks, the cinema has made an impressive start and even exceeded our expectations. We are looking forward to expanding this offering even further and are looking forward to the coming months when the next major entertainment highlight opens with Elite Experience,” says Paul Douay, Director of Operations Austria and Germany at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.

At the heart of the new Westfield SCS multiplex will be the new entertainment area in addition to the cinema and the extended range of restaurants. A leisure and entertainment area – operated by Elite Experience – will be built on more than 5,000 sq m by autumn 2024 and will include a high-end bowling area with twelve lanes and a 20-meter LED wall as well as crazy mini-golf (for the first time in Austria!) and escape rooms with live actors and arcade machines.
