The O2’s Entertainment District and shopping outlet, Icon Outlet have experienced a good trading period throughout the January and February half term, which follows a successful 2022 performance.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield currently operates 23 centers in the Germany and Austria region: 21 in Germany, eight of them in the Group’s own portfolio, and two in Austria. A total of 732 leases were concluded for these 23 centers last year. In addition, the mixed-use project Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, which is being developed by URW in Hamburg’s HafenCity until spring 2024, also experienced a lot of activity in 2022. The pre-letting rate for the retail, dining, and leisure sectors is now 73 percent.

“We believe in making the most of unused and underutilized spaces, ensuring that they can benefit and strengthen the entire fabric of the estate”, states Otto Ambagtsheer, CEO of VIA Outlets and Member of the ACROSS Advisory Board.

Another food & beverage offering has been added to the Westfield Centro promenade: the BigChefs restaurant brand opens its second branch in Germany and becomes one of the new flagships of the food & beverage brand mix at the location. With the new addition, Westfield Centro has achieved full occupancy for the promenade located directly at the center with around 15 dining concepts.

“The greatest opportunities we should focus on are those that provide an Educational, as well as an Experiential component to them. Both these “E’s” are the foundational pieces on which to build real value”, states Chris Igwe, Global Retail Expert and President of Chris Igwe International and member of the ACROSS Advisory Board.

The Czech retail market once again proved its appeal to retail brands, with 38 new arrivals last year. That is the same figure as in 2021 when the influx of 38 new brands was partly the result of the postponement of some entries due to the pandemic. These numbers represent a roughly 50% increase compared to 2019 (22 brands) and 2020 (25 brands).

The O2’s Entertainment District and shopping destination, Icon Outlet, which are owned and operated by Waterfront Limited Partnership, a joint venture between AEG and Crosstree Real Estate Partners, are looking ahead to a successful 2023, following a year of strong performance results and several, notable new brand signings and openings in 2022.

MINISO, the lifestyle product retailer offering high-quality household goods, cosmetics, food, and toys has signed a 10-year lease on 270 sq m at Basingstoke’s Festival Place. The new store, which opened on Saturday the 10th of December, is the thirteenth to open in the UK, the second in South East England and the first in Hampshire.
