Puig acquires cosmetics brand Dr. Barbara Sturm

Puig has announced the acquisition of a majority stake in the German molecular cosmetics brand Dr. Barbara Sturm. Founder Dr. Barbara Sturm will retain a minority stake and continue to hold the position of Chief Product Development Officer.

The acquisition strengthens Puig’s competitive position in the premium segment for skincare products. With its presence in digital channels, spas and boutiques, including in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Singapore and London, the brand has an excellent network that will now be further expanded.

“We are very excited to welcome a brand of the caliber of Dr. Barbara Sturm to our House of Love Brands. With its science-focused skincare product range and high-performance treatments, we are taking another important step in expanding our position in the premium skincare segment. The new partnership reinforces Puig skincare segment and our presence in the U.S,” said Marc Puig, Chairman and CEO of Puig.

The German doctor and aesthetics expert Dr. Barbara Sturm studied medicine and sport in Düsseldorf. In 2014, she founded the Dr. Barbara Sturm brand and developed an MCX treatment, a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facial, and shortly after, the famous “MC1” cream, a customized plasma-based moisturizer that harnesses the power of the body’s own proteins in a skin-healing formula. A complete anti-inflammatory collection – Molecolar Cosmetics – based on 25 years of scientific research has also been developed. In addition to the cosmetic lines, Dr. Barbara Sturm also operates seven spas and boutiques in the world’s most fashionable cities.

Founded in 1914, the Puig family business is the home of love brands in the wellness, fashion and beauty sectors. The Puig portfolio includes brands such as Carolina Herrera, Rabanne, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dries Van Noten, Nina Ricci, Byredo, Penhaligon’s, L’Artisan Parfumeur, Kama Ayurveda, Loto del Sur, Charlotte Tilbury, Uriage and Apivita as well as the beauty licenses of Christian Louboutin, Benetton, Banderas and Adolfo Dominguez.
