HBB opens section A of Husemann Karree

HBB celebrates the opening of component A of Husemann Karree on the square of the same name in Bochum. In the mixed-use business quarter, the department store Woolworth, the food market Rewe Mert and, in addition, the textile retailer KULT (OLYMP&HADES) will open in component B on October 19, 2023.

In the coming weeks, a hair salon, easy Fitness, public-intensive areas of the city of Bochum and the food court Miviko will follow; the Holiday Inn Express hotel will also welcome its first guests. The main complex (Building Parts A and B) will thus be completed this year. From 2024, Component C will complete the ensemble, in which HBB is investing around 180 million euros.

“We are delighted that Woolworth, Rewe Mert and KULT are the first stores to open in Husemann Karree,” says Harald Ortner, managing director of HBB. “By the end of the year, the remaining spaces in Building Parts A and B will fill with life, so that the two-part main complex will be completely finished.” The Miviko gastronomic offering in Component B will launch in the first quarter of 2024.

In Component C, the popular restaurant chain L’Osteria will open in the first quarter of 2024. The corona pandemic has significantly changed the world of work and thus the demand for office space, which is why HBB will also focus on healthcare offerings on the upper floors and no longer exclusively on offices. “There is a great need for modern space in the healthcare sector. In some cases, our talks in this regard are already very advanced,” explains Ortner.

The range of groceries, department stores, fashion, fitness and hotel in combination with gastronomy and services will sustainably strengthen the city center. The quality-designed buildings open onto Husemannplatz, which is currently being redesigned by the city to enhance the quality of life. In the immediate vicinity of Husemann Karree, the city will realize the House of Knowledge with the adult education center, the city library and a market hall.

“The ensemble of buildings is a groundbreaking example of how city centers can be revitalized with mixed-use neighborhoods, a diverse mix of uses and open structures,” adds Ortner.

The two-story underground parking garage with around 500 parking spaces is linked to the P1 Husemannplatz parking garage to the city of Bochum’s underground parking network. It is operated by Bochum Wirtschaftsentwicklung (BoWE). In addition, there are 400 bicycle parking spaces for office tenants, which are managed by HBB. HBB was solely responsible for financing and realizing Husemann Karree as an investor but implemented it in partnership with the city of Bochum as part of the integrated urban development concept (ISEK) “Innenstadt 2030”. HBB Centermanagement has been entrusted with active neighborhood management on a long-term basis.
