Bonn’s centrally located Maximilian Center will come under new management from 1 May 2025, as MEC, one of Germany’s leading retail property managers, takes over operational responsibility. The center’s owner, the Zusatzversorgungskasse der bayerischen Gemeinden—represented by Bayerische Versorgungskammer (BVK)—selected MEC following an EU-wide tender, citing the company’s track record in retail property development.
“We are delighted that we have won the trust of the Bayerische Versorgungskammer with our commitment and experience,” said Christian Schröder, COO of MEC. “With our interdisciplinary approach and close integration of site teams, we will manage the Maximilian Center reliably, position it for the future, and develop it sustainably.”
Located directly beside Bonn’s main train station, the 12,000 sq m Maximilian Center draws heavy foot traffic and houses a diverse mix of retail, food, and service outlets. Tenants include Primark, Rewe to go, dm Drogeriemarkt, and Backwerk. The property functions both as a shopping destination and a key transit point for commuters.
“With MEC, we have an experienced partner at our side,” said Stefan Scheffczyk, Head of Real Estate Asset Management at BVK. “Their comprehensive expertise in retail property management will optimally support the Maximilian Center, and we are convinced the location will develop positively as a result of this collaboration.”
Jörg Wege, MEC’s Head of Business & Project Development, emphasized the site’s strategic advantages: “This central location offers great potential. The Maximilian Center is another high-traffic retail location in our portfolio and underscores our growth strategy. Together with BVK, we will further develop it as an attractive destination for customers and visitors.”
The new mandate bolsters MEC’s position as a market leader in managing retail properties. The company currently oversees more than 60 locations across Germany, offering tailored solutions for investors, tenants, and customers.
