Markus Diers becomes Head of Asset Management Retail at Union Investment

Union Investment is bringing Markus Diers back into the team. Currently a managing director at Redos Real Estate GmbH in Hamburg, Diers will take charge of retail asset management at Union Investment with effect from 1 March 2024.

Markus Diers is an experienced retail expert. He has a track record of leadership and already spent many years at Union Investment. From 2005 to 2016, he worked at Union Investment as a specialist in retail properties and subsequently as team leader for asset management of the European retail portfolio.

In his new role as head of department, Markus Diers will from March on be responsible for managing more than 50 retail properties held by the Union Investment funds. He is taking over from Lars Richter, who was instrumental in building up the portfolio and the department. After successfully managing the department for 20 years, Lars Richter will retire from the company on age grounds at the end of 2024.

“We are delighted to have found this excellent solution for a generational change. With his strong expertise in retail and broad experience of the retail park, high street and shopping centre segments, Markus Diers will continue the valuable work done by Lars Richter and further develop our well-positioned retail portfolio, with a view also to new institutional investment solutions,” said Henrike Waldburg, a member of the Management Board at Union Investment Real Estate GmbH.

Markus Diers has more than 20 years’ experience in property management, with a special focus on asset management of retail properties. Prior to joining Redos, where he is currently responsible for asset and leasing management in the Redos Group’s fund business, Markus Diers spent five years at HIH Real Estate GmbH as head of asset management retail.
