Kaufland is expanding its electric truck logistics through a new cooperation with charging infrastructure operator Milence who plans to open a public charging park for electric trucks in the immediate vicinity of the Kaufland logistics hub in the second quarter of this year.
Since 2024, three electric trucks have been supplying Kaufland stores in the Hanover region from Barsinghausen, using two mobile charging units located at the site. The new facility will provide four 400-kW charging points, with further expansion planned.
The new charging infrastructure will allow Kaufland to deploy six additional electric trucks. According to the company, the higher charging capacity supports the use of vehicles with a longer range, enabling deliveries to more distant stores in northern Germany. “We want to make our logistics sustainable and future-ready,” said Pascal Siegmund, Head of SCM International Transport Logistics at Kaufland, pointing to the role of partnerships in achieving this.
Milence views the cooperation as a practical example of how freight customers can support the electrification of heavy goods transport. “Bundling demand helps accelerate the transition,” said Tobias Prenzel, Business Development and Partnership Lead at Milence.
Kaufland estimates that, based on average payloads, the nine electric trucks will save around 700 tonnes of CO₂ per year. All vehicles are charged using 100 percent certified green electricity. Since electric store deliveries began at the end of 2023, Kaufland Logistics has covered more than 1.5 million kilometers using battery-electric trucks.
