Katherine Croom appointed Managing Director of Sorbon Estates

Commercial property owner, asset manager and developer Sorbon Estates has announced Katherine Croom as Managing Director.

Formerly Head of Asset Management at Edinburgh House Estates, Katherine will be responsible for the overarching management of the Sorbon Estates property portfolio and teams, incorporating estates management, investments and projects and growing income.

Katherine started out in the property world as an estate agent before beginning a graduate surveying programme with CBRE in retail development and leasing.  She has been in the retail and leisure sector ever since. First as the asset manager of Henderson’s pan-European retail and leisure portfolio, before developing an interest in the UK market with a focus on the granular detail of property rather than investment.  This led to a hands-on role at Praxis, followed by a move to Edinburgh House Estates as Head of Asset Management where Katherine managed a large team working with big town centres and shopping centres, driving regeneration of schemes and enhancing assets at a community level.

MD of Sorbon Estates was a natural next step from a managerial point of view and in terms of the business focus.  Sorbon Estates typically invests in its properties over the long term, redeveloping to make improvements that will maximise their potential.  This will be a big focus for Katherine, she says, “I am thrilled to be working with a company that not only invests in its locations but has a long-term vision.  The variety of assets in the portfolio is fascinating and the innovative redevelopment work already underway in places like Maidenhead will make such a positive impact on the local community.  I’m also excited about the opportunity to work collaboratively with both the residential and charity foundation arms of Shanly Group and becoming part of the company family.”

The company culture side of the business is also a priority for Katherine, “Sorbon is very focused on bringing young people through the business.  I really like their style and I’m very much looking forward to working with team members just starting out in property and helping to support and guide them through.”

Katherine takes over the role of MD from Tamra Booth who will remain at Sorbon Estates in a consultative capacity.
