Hasselt///Belgium – Carrefour Belgium has expanded its autonomous retail footprint with the opening of its largest BuyBye store at Corda Campus in Hasselt. This marks the seventh location for the BuyBye format, which leverages AI-enabled retail operations and automated access systems.
The store operates continuously seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., requiring no on-site staff. Eight refrigerated units stock fresh prepared salads, bread, ready-to-eat meals, snacks, and dry groceries, catering to shoppers seeking quick options or meal assembly. A significant differentiator: the store includes an integrated ATM, allowing customers to withdraw cash alongside grocery purchases.
Corda Campus, among Europe’s largest innovation hubs, hosts over 100 startups and attracts thousands of daily employees and visitors. The location positions Carrefour to capture convenience purchasing in a high-traffic professional district where traditional retail hours often prove restrictive.
The autonomous store concept has proven resilient across diverse micro-locations. Prior deployments include Zaventem Service Center, Yvoir Express, SHAPE NATO Base in Mons, and MontLégia Hospital in Liège, alongside ibis hotels at Paris Charles-de-Gaulle Airport and Brussels-Midi Station. This expansion signals Carrefour’s confidence in the BuyBye model’s growth potential within Belgium’s retail property market.
