APCOA PLANS 100.000 NEW CHARGING STATIONS FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN 12.000 LOCATIONS EUROPEAN-WIDE

APCOA PARKING (APCOA) is the leading European parking space operator with 1.8 million carports in more than 12,000 locations in 13 countries and has planned the installation of up to 100,000 new charging stations for electric vehicles in its car parks until the year 2035.

In the course of its new e-strategy, the company will invest in the expansion of its AC-charging infrastructure. Parallel to this development, strategic partners from the automobile industry as well as energy suppliers and charging infrastructure providers will erect more than 1,000 additional DC-fast charging units right across the site network of APCOA car parks.

The new charging infrastructure will be supported by a new digital platform developed by APCOA. This has been prepared for the hardware independent from the manufacturer and can be run independently of the owner of the charging station. Due to this compatible design, it is possible to integrate multiple partners and service providers- an offer, which is unique in comparison to the market.

The apps APCOA FLOW and APCOA Connect serve as user interfaces for the car park guests: they make it possible for the value-added services such as searching, booking, and payment processes to be easy.

“The trend towards electric vehicles as the dominating technical solution for traffic is irreversible. The charging infrastructure for electric vehicles plays thus a significant role in the transformation of the APCOA car parks into co-called urban hubs. We as providers, see this upgrade as a substantial revenue potential”, says Philippe Op de Beeck, CEO of APCOA PARKING Group. In accordance with the company’s commitment to climate neutrality, the charging infrastructure of APCOA will be powered completely with green energy.

Until today there exists a total of 2,500 charging stations available for electric vehicles in the car parks run by APCOA. Due to the data collected from charging stations, the firm believes that there will be a substantial increase in the demand reflecting the increasing number of electric vehicles. The offer will be locationally provided under the brand APCOA URBAN HUBS.

“We believe in the future of electric mobility, which will contribute immensely to the net-zero-strategy. This is the reason why we are creating the important infrastructure and thus making our contribution to the achievement of the international decarbonization goal. As a company, we strive towards an environmentally friendly formation of our growth to create a liveable future. In the past years, we have been continuously working on the implementation of ESG measures, and our sustainability initiatives are clustered in a company-wide ESG program. Here, all of our measures are oriented towards the UN-Global-Compact-Agreement that APCOA has also signed”, states Op de Beeck.
