New Brands and Expanded Concepts: Alstertal-Einkaufszentrum’s modernization

Hamburg’s Alstertal-Einkaufszentrum is pressing ahead with its refurbishment programme, strengthening its retail, dining, and lifestyle offer. Initial changes are already visible, with further additions to the tenant mix in the pipeline.

The modernisation of AEZ, northern Germany’s largest shopping centre, is gaining momentum. A key focus is the lower ground floor, where the opening of a new Lidl in November has significantly enhanced the everyday retail offer. At the same time, long-standing tenants dm and Alligator are relocating to larger, upgraded units within the centre.

In terms of new brands, Rituals opened a flagship store in November, with Søstrene Grene set to follow in autumn 2026. Miniso will also enter the centre during the same period, marking its first location in Hamburg. The food and beverage offer is evolving as well: Ciao Bella is relocating within the first upper level and transitioning to its new “Cucina by Ciao Bella” concept.

Another highlight is planned for later this year with the launch of a new beach club on the parking deck, adding a leisure-focused component to the centre. These measures represent the early stages of a broader refurbishment strategy, with more extensive architectural and structural changes scheduled to begin in the second quarter of the year, particularly affecting the first upper level.
