ALDI SÜD takes over the SATURN retail space in the DAS ES! shopping center in Esslingen

The opening of the 1,860 sq m space on the first floor is planned for mid-2025. The shopping centre is part of the portfolio of Union Investment’s UniImmo.

The food discounter ALDI SÜD is to open a new supermarket at DAS ES! in Esslingen. The shopping centre is part of the portfolio of Union Investment’s UniImmo: Deutschland open-ended real estate fund since 2015. The 1,860 sqm space on the first floor will be used by electronics retailer SATURN until the end of September 2024. The refurbishment will begin this year after the retailer moves out. The ALDI SÜD supermarket is scheduled to open in mid-2025.

As a typical local shopping center, DAS ES! brings together a wide variety of shopping options under one roof in 23 shops: from fashion and textile retailers to drugstores and a medical center. The offer is optimally tailored to the local demand structure. Added to this is the good location directly opposite the railway station. The shopping center also attracts customers from the region and brings important footfall into the city.

“We are delighted to have gained ALDI, the market leader in the discounter sector, as a tenant. It will significantly strengthen the local shopping expertise of our center. DAS ES! is very important for the city and for city marketing. Due to many retail closures, Esslingen has a high vacancy rate in the city center. Our shopping center, which opened in 2002, provides stability and continuity here. It is the heart of the shopping landscape in Esslingen.” Markus Diers, Head of Asset Management Retail at Union Investment.

DAS ES! is managed by B&L Property Management GmbH. Managing Director Thomas Junkersfeld was delighted with the new lease to ALDI SÜD and described it as a significant addition to the shopping center in this prime location.
