A New Shopping Oasis for Slavonians

In mid-June, the Supernova Group opened its 15th retail property development in Požega, Croatia: The Supernova Požega retail park introduces famous brands to the city of the same name in Slavonia, in the east of the country.

The family shopping destination covers 11,000 sq m and features 15 shops, 1 restaurant, and 450 parking spaces for guests. Visitors will find many well-known brands at the new Supernova Group shopping center, such as Baby Center, C&A, CCC, Deichmann, dm, Galileo, KiK, NewYorker, Pepco, Sinsay, Sport Vision, Tedi, Top Shop, Leggiero Bar, Admiral Automat Club, and the popular Italian food chain Eurospin.

“The long-awaited opening of the new retail park has finally arrived, and we are happy to introduce new brands and an even more exciting shopping experience to Požega. The total value of the investment is 16 million euros, and 300 new jobs have been created. Požega is now the ninth city in Croatia in which we operate, and I believe that, through this retail park, we have created an excellent offer for all of its citizens, as well as the entire county,” said Paul Merdzo, Member of the Board of the Supernova Group.

More Than EUR 420 Million Invested in Croatia to Date

The opening attracted many Slavonians, who enjoyed both the entertaining music as well as the numerous discounts and promotions offered by the retailers. Younger visitors delighted in the entertainment program and had their faces painted, while the older ones participated in a “wheel of fortune” game that featured a wealth of prizes provided by the new brands. As part of the opening, many retailers offered special discounts and promotions throughout the weekend. The retail park is open from Monday to Sunday.

The Supernova Group is an international company based in Graz. To date, it has invested more than EUR 420 million in Croatia through various projects. In addition to the newly opened Supernova Požega retail park, the Group manages all Supernova brands throughout the country (Zagreb Buzin, Garden Mall, Colosseum, Slavonski Brod, Zadar, Šibenik, Koprivnica, Sisak East, Sisak West, Varaždin, Karlovac) as well as Centar Cvjetni, Centar Kaptol and Branimir Mingle Mall in Zagreb.

The consequences for retail and its accompanying services are equally dynamic and controversial. Food purchases at brick-and-mortar stores increased by 10 percent or more across Europe in 2020 as a result of the pandemic. At the same time, purchases of consumer durables, such as clothing, home electronics, home accessories, toys, sports, and leisure items increasingly shifted from offline to online retail.

Kaufland, Strong Footfall Anchor of Thriving Centers

During the pandemic, Kaufland’s more than 1,350 large supermarkets established themselves as reliable and footfall-generating food anchors in the European shopping plaza landscape. In an in-depth interview with ACROSS, Dr. Angelus Bernreuther, Head of Institutional Investor Relationship Management and Real Estate at Kaufland, describes the success strategies that lead to a win-win alliance between shopping places and their anchor tenant Kaufland:
