umdasch The Store Makers wins RLI Award for “Interior Excellence” with Harrods project “The Georgian”

The Global RLI Awards are among the most prestigious international recognitions in the field of retail and leisure – which makes the joy even greater for umdasch The Store Makers at winning this year’s award in the category Interior Excellence. The award went to The Georgian, the iconic restaurant in the world-renowned London luxury department store Harrods. It honors outstanding achievements in interior design and execution quality – underlining umdasch The Store Makers’ special expertise in high-end retail.

Historic beauty in a new light

As part of an elaborate, multi-year renovation of the legendary Harrods department store, a special highlight reopened last November: The Georgian – one of the store’s most historic restaurants, famous for its classic afternoon tea culture and historic atmosphere. In close collaboration with the renowned David Collins Studio, responsible for the exceptional design concept, umdasch The Store Makers transformed the space into a stylish work of art that brings the spirit of the 1920s into the present.

The transformation centered on the harmonious combination of restoration, redesign, and craftsmanship. The Store Makers produced and installed bespoke furniture and decorative elements that reflected the room’s historic splendor in exquisite detail. Highlights such as the restored coffered ceiling, mirrors with mother-of-pearl inlays, geometric floor patterns, and 25 individually crafted chandeliers turn The Georgian into a truly unique experiential space. Color accents in amethyst and champagne tones emphasize the luxurious atmosphere.

The Georgian: More than a restaurant

The reopening not only revived a legendary venue – The Georgian now represents a one-of-a-kind hospitality experience in the heart of Harrods. The successful revitalization of its historic flair combined with modern luxury aesthetics creates an atmosphere that captivates guests from around the world and underscores the exclusive character of the store.

For The Store Makers, this project adds another milestone to their long-standing partnership with Harrods and David Collins Studio. Stephen Champion, project manager at umdasch The Store Makers, emphasizes the significance of the work: “This prestigious project gave us the opportunity to honor the story of Harrods through outstanding gastronomy in a luxurious setting – and thereby become part of that story.”

With this project, umdasch The Store Makers has once again proven its ability to transform visionary designs into breathtaking realities.

“This award is a wonderful testament to the excellent collaboration between David Collins Studio, Harrods, and our dedicated team at umdasch The Store Makers. It is always inspiring to contribute to such iconic interiors – spaces that one simply has to admire,” says Roman Fußthaler, Managing Director, Premium Solutions at umdasch The Store Makers.
