Another leasing success for Union Investment and ECE at the Limbecker Platz shopping center in Essen: The former Galeria space is getting a new anchor tenant in the form of Scandinavian fashion concept Lager 157. The Swedish label sells fashion basics for women, men and children and expanded into Germany for the first time in 2024. The concept will occupy around 3,000 sq m in the basement of Limbecker Platz. The opening is scheduled for early 2026. Until then, the façade will be extended by more than ten metres and several existing shop spaces will be merged.

Norman Naehrig, Asset Manager Retail at Union Investment, states: “We are delighted to have secured the third tenant for this high-quality space just eleven months after Galeria Karstadt moved out due to insolvency. With Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf and Intersport, two further well-known concepts are already in place. Negotiations for the remaining space are at an advanced stage and we are confident that we will be able to announce further leases for the former Galeria space by the end of the year.”
Steffen Friedlein, Managing Director Leasing Projects at ECE Marketplaces, adds: “The lease to Scandinavian fashion label Lager 157 is another building block on the road to the successful transformation of the former department store space at Limbecker Platz – and a good example of how we are positioning the centres flexibly and successfully for the future with tailored utilisation concepts and new, expanding retailers.”

Limbecker Platz is also proving dynamic beyond large-scale leasing: several new concepts have opened in the centre in recent months. Following successful months, MINISO expanded its space by an additional 170 square metres. Belchicken, Frankie’s Churros, Phien Coffee and Lord of Döner are new additions to the food court.
Further new openings are already planned for autumn 2025: the frozen yoghurt concept Berry Cool, the shawarma concept Fill Full, the sushi provider Nuki and the jewellery label Isnor are in the starting blocks. In addition, XIAOMI will open its first shop in a German shopping centre – with around 100 sqm of retail space.
