StadtCenter Düren – New mandate for MEC

As of January 1, 2019, MEC METRO-ECE Center Management will take over the complete commercial and technical management of the "StadtCenter Düren". The contract comes from Union Investment, which has held the centre in the portfolio of its open-ended public real estate fund UniImmo: Germany since January 2017.

“The StadtCenter Düren is an attractive location due to its position at the end of the pedestrian zone and the existing tenant mix. Sales have developed positively in the last two years”, explains Christian Schröder, COO of MEC METRO-ECE Center Management.

The center with the modern exterior façade has been part of Dürens shopping landscape since 2005. Almost 18,000 sq m of rental space, 52 shops as well as attractive service and gastronomy offers in light-flooded forums invite the customers to shop and linger.

“We opted for MEC as the complete operator of the StadtCenter Düren because, together with this new partner in the center, we want to further develop it and thus exploit the potential of the location,” explains Ralf Schaffuss, responsible for the asset management of the German shopping centers at Union Investment Real Estate GmbH.

Tenant mix with fashion, electronics and international gastronomy

Fashion is particularly strongly represented in the StadtCenter Düren with brands such as H&M, New Yorker, Brax and Ernstings Family. Saturn and the telecommunications providers Telekom, O2 and Vodafone offer electronics and communication for all target groups. The gastronomy offering is varied and internationally positioned with Mc Donalds, Asian and Turkish offerings as well as a café.

Medium-level centre Düren is conveniently located for transport

The two-storey shopping center forms the end of Dürens pedestrian zone and is easily accessible by car, train or public transport. The train station is only about three minutes away, 15 bus lines stop directly at the building and 310 parking spaces are available on the parking deck.

The district town of Düren is conveniently located between the cities of Düsseldorf, Cologne and Aachen and is an important medium-sized centre for the surrounding small towns. The catchment area for the Stadtcenter Düren comprises approx. 270,000 inhabitants within a 20-minute drive. With a connection to two airports as well as the ICE network and a connection to the Cologne S-Bahn network, the city is easily accessible. The manufacturing industry brings 24,000 commuters into the city every day.
