SPAR Spain stands in solidarity with communities during the COVID-19 pandemic

Right from the start of the coronavirus outbreak, SPAR Spain partners nationwide have taken the appropriate health and safety measures, securing their logistics supply and implementing the necessary disinfection procedures in their stores and distribution centres.

Moreover, SPAR Spain is supporting high-risk groups such as the elderly and people who depend on food banks.

These solidarity actions vary in magnitude, ranging from donations and the transport of food and basic necessities, to simple initiatives such as filling supermarket carts to donate goods in cooperation with customers.

Grupo Cuevas, holder of the SPAR Brand northwestern Spain, works side by side with the Association of Young Entrepreneurs (AJE), preparing orders for people over 65 in the city of La Coruña and surrounding municipalities and offering a free home delivery service for daily necessities.

The SPAR Partner has also joined a campaign promoted by the Santiago de Compostela Council to supply food and basic hygiene products to people in situations of social vulnerability.

Together with ASUMUR, the Supermarket Association of Murcia, it has delivered 30 tons of staple foods to the Murcia Food Bank, in addition to collaborating with different non-governmental organizations such as the local Red Cross and El Buen Samaritano charity.

Fragadis, SPAR Spain partner along the eastern Mediterranean coast, ran a campaign until 18 April to collect food for people in need, which was then distributed via the different Interparochial Caritas distribution centres.

In addition, the Spanish SPAR Partner has made several food contributions to the Municipal Institute of Social Services of Tarragona (IMSST) to support projects carried out to face the effects of the coronavirus.

Holder of the SPAR Brand in Barcelona, Roges Supermercats, has collaborated with the donation of 1,200kg of basic products to the Fundació del Convent de Santa Clara charity’s food platform in Manresa.

On Ibiza island, SPAR Spain partner Excluib has developed a campaign called ‘Carro Solidario’ whereby customers can help people in need by filling shopping trolleys with basic products.
