Saks Fifth Avenue “Theatre of Dreams” awarded “Excellence in Installation” Award

American Christmas, an MK Illumination company, is delighted to announced that 2018 Saks Fifth Avenue “Theatre of Dreams” has been awarded the Live Design “Excellence in Installation” Award for Temporary Lighting Installation.

Each year, millions of people around the world look forward to the annual Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Light Show. The 2018 display, entitled, “Theatre of Dreams”, thrilled visitors with its 8-story tall, city-block wide ode to Broadway, which included John Williams’ arrangement of “There’s No Business Like Show Business.” Large, sweeping, repeating arcs paid tribute to the art deco shapes within nearby music halls, G40 globes outlined the shape of the facade – an homage to the marquee lights of Times Square, and lush, illuminated, red curtains nodded to the main rags of the many theaters just blocks away.

American Christmas led the collaboration of the teams at Chris Werner Design, 4Wall Entertainment, AMA Sign & Electric, and Saks Fifth Avenue in alliance with Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS to create the 2018 iteration of this spectacular program.

We’re incredibly proud that our team efforts to realize this complex light show paid off. It really was spectacular, and getting the installation just right was vital to the success of the show, especially given the number of performances. The show was repeated over 2000 times between mid-November and early-January, so the design and installation not only need to be visually stunning and of the highest quality, but robust, too,” said Kent Fritzel, EVP of Creative at American Christmas. “We’re honoured that Live Design and all the voters chose this project to win the “Excellence in Installation” Award.

Klaus Mark, CEO and Founder of MK Illumination, was one of the first to congratulate the team.

Each year, American Christmas, Saks Fifth Avenue, and the team of incredibly creative partners create an unforgettable experience for the people of New York—and thanks to the wonders of live streaming, the world—using design, creativity, light, and sound. One of our key drivers here at MK Illumination is to make people happy, and this Holiday Light Show does this without fail,” he said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what 2020 will bring!
