Decathlon is starting the new year with major news: the French sporting goods manufacturer and retailer will soon open another store at the Gerngross centre on Vienna’s Mariahilfer Straße, marking its seventh location in Austria. With this move, Decathlon is further strengthening its presence in the Austrian market and bringing its broad sports offering directly into Vienna’s city centre. The new store, with a sales area of around 1,500 sq m, is scheduled to open in the first half of the year.

“The location in this urban and dynamic environment reflects Decathlon’s vision of making sport—and the benefits it brings—accessible to everyone, regardless of age, background or sporting experience,” says Ana Aguilo, CEO of Decathlon Austria.
The product range will be specifically tailored to the urban setting and complemented by a free click & collect service, giving customers access at any time to Decathlon’s full online range covering more than 70 sports.
Urban, Central, Diverse: New Opening Brings Sport and Jobs to the City Centre
Decathlon currently operates stores in Vösendorf, Vienna-Stadlau, the 1100 Columbus shopping centre in Vienna, Klagenfurt, Seiersberg-Pirka near Graz and Pasching near Linz. The opening at Gerngross underscores the company’s clear expansion strategy in Austria. “With this new store, we are sending a strong signal in support of urban sports enthusiasm. Whether it’s running shoes for the park, fitness equipment for home use or the right bike for the city, we want to reach people where they live and stay active,” Aguilo continues.
Customers can expect a compact, curated product selection on site, tailored to the sporting needs of an urban environment. Decathlon stands for a broad sports offering across all performance levels—from entry-level to ambitious recreational athletes. Aguilo adds: “With well-designed, affordable equipment, our goal at Decathlon is to strengthen sport as a unifying force and make wellbeing accessible to all.”
Gerhard Wohlmacher, Centre Manager of Gerngross, comments: “We are very pleased to significantly expand our sports and leisure offering with the addition of Decathlon. This sends another strong signal for Mariahilfer Straße as a retail location.”
The new store will also create several new jobs at the Gerngross location. Decathlon is therefore seeking sports enthusiasts who want to share their passion with customers and actively become part of the team. Aguilo concludes: “Our teams live and breathe sport—and you can feel it. Working at Decathlon means becoming part not only of an international company, but of a community that stands for movement, fairness and continuous development.”
