Neinver and Nuveen Real Estate lay cornerstone for Amsterdam The Style Outlets

The Dutch center will open in autumn 2020 and will be the first outlet center in the Greater Amsterdam area.

Neptune, a joint venture between Neinver and Nuveen Real Estate, has laid the foundation stone for Amsterdam The Style Outlets. With piling and foundation works already completed, construction works for the center are moving forward for an autumn 2020 opening.

The cornerstone event had the support of local authorities, with participation by Marja Ruigrok, a municipal executive councillor of Haarlemmermeer. Marcel Herben, Center Manager of Amsterdam The Style Outlets, and Sebastian Sommer, Neinver’s Marketing and Retail Director Europe, also participated in the ceremony.

“We have entered a new phase in the development of Amsterdam The Style Outlets, with construction works now speeding up. The center is generating great interest from premium brands, with 70% of the leasing space already secured at this early stage. Its premium brand mix, high-end environment and excellent location will position Amsterdam The Style Outlets as a top international destination and a driver of the regional economy and tourism,” said Marcel Herben, Center Manager of Amsterdam The Style Outlets.

“Today, we start with a very special development in a unique, dynamic and inspiring area. I think it is fantastic that the former site of the sugar factory has been given a new purpose. It is a very positive development for the region,” commented municipal executive councillor Marja Ruigrok.

Amsterdam The Style Outlets will bring premium Dutch and international brands to the Randstad area, one of the wealthiest and most densely populated regions of Europe, benefiting from a catchment area of 12 million people within 90 minutes’ drive.

The center will feature 115 stores set across 19,000 sq m of GLA, including 1,000 sq m planned for leisure areas, restaurants with outdoor seating, and walkways and gardens, as well as 1,950 parking spaces. Beyond an exclusive commercial mix, Neinver will offer guests a compelling overall experience, with concierge services, free Wi-Fi, and shuttle bus service, among others. The opening of the center will create around 600 direct jobs.

The village design of the center is inspired by traditional Dutch architecture, with an important role for vegetation and natural light. Shops will feature brick facades and shuttered windows topped by traditional pitched roofs in a nod to the factory’s original 19th-century warehouses. The center is being developed in accordance with the criteria of Breeman New Construction certification.

Amsterdam The Style Outlets will become Neptune’s first outlet center in the Netherlands and the 14th European asset in the JV portfolio.
