MEC rents three locations to Kaufland

Retail real estate manager succeeds in re-letting on areas of former Real stores MEC wins the full-range grocery retailer Kaufland as anchor tenant at three locations.

After the closure of the former Real stores, MEC, Kaufland and the owners developed location-appropriate usage concepts within a very short time. A Kaufland branch opens in the Breisgau Center Freiburg and the Löwen Center Leipzig. A Kaufland branch opened in ORO Schwabach in July.

The branches were closed for only two days and were supplied with new goods during this time, the fruit and vegetable departments were rebuilt, the scales and cash register systems replaced. The conversion to the modern Kaufland concept takes place during ongoing operations. MEC operates the Löwen Center Leipzig on behalf of Nuveen Real Estate. In the Breisgau Center Freiburg, MEC is responsible for Union Investment for comprehensive real estate operations.

“MEC accompanied the process of the lease negotiations smoothly and will carry out the specific conversions for the new anchor tenant in the Löwen Center Leipzig, from general technical support to construction controlling. In addition, the aforementioned services as well as the general planning services for the restructuring of the remaining center space will be provided,”says Tobias Kroczek, Senior Portfolio Manager, Nuveen Real Estate.

“The smooth re-letting is mainly due to the close teamwork and interdisciplinary cooperation between MEC, Kaufland and us as the owners of the Breisgau Center Freiburg. Hand in hand, we have created attractive prospects for the location,”says Ralf Schaffuss, Head of Asset Management Retail Germany at Union Investment.
