LABTECH UNVEILS REDEVELOPMENT SCHEME FOR BUCK STREET MARKET

LabTech, owner of Camden Market, has unveiled plans for the redevelopment of Buck Street Market, due to launch in Summer 2019. Comprising 52 recycled shipping containers, Buck Street, will expand on Camden’s retail and dining offer for local visitors.

Realised by Urban Space Management and architect, Eric Reynolds, one of the original pioneers of Camden Market in the 1970s, Buck Street Market is located next to Camden Town Tube station and will serve the area’s 30 million visitors a year.  At 12,000 sq ft across three levels, the innovative new market will house up to 80 independent traders, including many that currently inhabit the existing site, as well as a market hall and artisan businesses. Buck Street Market’s refreshed food and beverage offer will also feature a diverse range of local produce.

Forming part of its redevelopment Buck Street Market will boast a roof top garden, illuminated greenhouse and a communal space for wellness including, yoga classes and botanical workshops. Created in collaboration with Vegbox, a community-led scheme from Kentish Town, the rooftop garden and greenhouse will grow salad leaves and herbs, as well as offer a functional and educational public space.

Maggie Milosavljevic, LabTech’s F&B Commercial Director, commented: “Our plans for developing Buck Street will retain jobs on site as well as a market in keeping with the history of the area. Buck Street has been created to complement the existing Camden Market but will establish its own community of independent retailers, street food and social enterprises. Aimed at the ‘local consumer’ the new marketplace will provide a more diverse offering, convenient for visitors to shop, dwell or dine at as well as community initiatives for the local neighbourhood.”

Eric Reynolds, Urban Space Management, added: “Reusable shipping containers provide a quirky, cost effective and sustainable approach to building design and are a growing trend when looking at developing sites across London. Our designs for Buck Street are both an extension and evolution of the market site currently and our work will showcase a new focal point for visitors to Camden.”

The launch of Buck Street Market follows LabTech’s vision for Hawley Wharf Camden; a 580,000 sq ft mixed-scheme development due to open in September 2019.  Hawley Wharf will deliver a unique Camden-style ecosystem for visitors and workers to enjoy.  The canal-side mixed-use development will provide 150 shops, over 60 places to eat, 195 apartments and 50,000 sq ft of co-working space.

LabTech acted on behalf of Buck Street Market and Colliers International represents Hawley Wharf Camden.
