Giles Membrey joins ACROSS Advisory Board

Giles Membrey is the Managing Director of Rioja Estates Ltd. He is a pioneer of the designer outlet market, having played a leading role in introducing outlets into the UK in the 1980s and has since successfully developed retail destinations across Europe. Giles has over 25 years of experience in out-of-town retail development, outlet development and European-wide experience.

Distinguished Career

Previously, with Edward Erdman, Giles was responsible for setting up one of the first factory outlets centres in the UK in Swindon. Then he developed Mansfield with Richardson/Tarmac. Throughout an outstanding career Giles has built and maintained solid working relationships with leading developers, financial institutions and retailers, paving the way for Rioja Estates Ltd. to offer the market the very best in joint venture partnerships. As well as being responsible for several specific factory and designer outlet scheme projects in the UK, Europe and CEE: Budapest, Bratislava, Bordeaux, Geneva, Cannock, Prague, Finland and Ireland.

Giles is a former Chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), for five years in European Outlet Conferences.

The ACROSS Advisory Board’s declared aim is to offer its expertise in topic identification and formulation. The board currently has 23 members. There will be a semi-annual discussion process whereby the advisory board identifies the challenges and opportunities that the industry faces, and what burning problems and emerging trends they see.
