Frasers Group confirmed to take space at Barnsley’s The Glass Works

Queensberry has announced its signing of leading luxury fashion brand Flannels as the latest name set to join The Glass Works in Barnsley, ahead of its launch later this year. Construction on the final phase of The Glass Works has continued effectively in line with government guidelines and works are on track for completion in September.

Taking an 11,000 sq. ft unit, Frasers Group has signed a 10-year lease at the brand-new major retail, leisure and community destination in the heart of the town centre alongside flagship stores NEXT, TK Maxx and Sports Direct. Owned by Fraser Group, the new Flannels store in the unique location of The Glass Works will bring men’s, women’s and children’s luxury clothing, shoes and accessories from the most coveted designer brands to Barnsley and the wider South Yorkshire region.

Alex Hyams, Senior Leasing and Asset Manager for Queensberry, said: “We’re delighted to announce Flannels as the latest retailer confirmed to be opening at The Glass Works in Barnsley town centre later this year.  This will be an exciting draw for the people of Barnsley and beyond and is part of the ongoing transformation and regeneration of the town centre.  Flannels adds some glitz to the retail line up which will complement the 13 screen Cineworld, the restaurants and bars, Superbowl and of course our other retail offers.”

James France, Head of Global Leasehold Properties at Frasers Group, said; “This new location in Barnsley’s The Glass Works, demonstrates Frasers Groups’ confidence in our elevation strategy and commitment to opening luxury retail destinations throughout the UK. The opening of this store further demonstrates our dedication to bricks-and-mortar and raising-the-bar for retail whilst offering unrivalled brands and experience.”

This investment is part of Frasers Group’s wider elevation strategy and ongoing commitment to luxury retail experiences, spearheaded by Head of Elevation, Michael Murray.

Matt Gladstone, Executive Director of Place, Barnsley Council, said: “This is great news for Barnsley, Flannels is a high-end luxury brand that really helps to elevate the retail offer.

“We are looking forward to welcoming them and know they are a fantastic addition to the scheme. The Glass Works provides an excellent opportunity for both new commercial and independent occupiers and is focused on offering a varied mix with a wide appeal.”

The Glass Works – Barnsley Council’s multi-million-pound town centre regeneration scheme is part of a major plan by Barnsley Council, supported by Development Management specialists Queensberry, to regenerate the town centre. The Glass Works is part of a wider town regeneration programme to make Barnsley an even stronger social, cultural and visitor destination, that will introduce a unique line-up of national retail and leisure brands including Cineworld, Superbowl UK, and Deichmann, as well as the inclusion of community uses such as the Library @ The Lightbox and with Barnsley’s historic Market and Market Kitchen also at the heart of the development. The Glass Works paves the way for Barnsley becoming a more sustainable and accessible town centre that will attract visitors from further afield and improve the local and night-time economy.
