Cineplexx opened new Multiplex in Kosovo

Three years after its market entry in Kosovo and the opening of the first modern cinema in Pristina, the leading Austrian cinema operator Cineplexx has opened a brand new Multiplex in Prizren.

The opening ceremony of the new cinema in Galeria Shopping Mall was held in the presence of the mall’s operators, Cineplexx representatives and local partners. Escref Memaj, the Deputy Mayor of Prizren, was also in attendance.

“We invested more than 4 million EUR in this project to ensure the development of a state-of-the-art cinema experience for our visitors,” stated Christian Langhammer, owner and CEO of Cineplexx, said in his opening speech.

Milazim Salihu, Director of Cineplexx Kosovo, stated that Prizren was chosen because it is the cultural center of Kosovo as well as due to its proximity to Albania, where Cineplexx is already present.

The new cinema venue offers 5 modern halls with more than 700 seats. It is equipped with the newest technology, including phosphor projects that provide sharp, high-contrast images.

Since starting its expansion in the region in 2009, Cineplexx has become the leader in the entertainment market in SEE. The chain is known for introducing exciting innovations such as Real3D Ultimate Screen, 4K screen resolution and Dolby Atmos sound technology.

In June this year Cineplexx entered the Romanian market, taking over the business operations of the 2700 seats cinema within Baneasa Shopping City. By the end of 2020, the number of venues in Romania will be increased to 5. The company has also started the construction of its first multiplex in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, this year.

Cineplexx International GmbH is part of the Austrian based Constantin Film Holding GmbH, founded in 1951 as a film distributor in Austria.

At present, the company operates 50 multiplexes and 6 conventional movie theaters in 12 countries: Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, Northern Macedonia, Greece, Italy and Romania. In 2018, Constantin Film Holding GmbH generated sales of around 130 million EUR while its cinemas welcomed nearly 11 million visitors.
