Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum’s West Wing Facelift Project to begin in December 2025

The modernization of Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum (RRZ) in Mülheim an der Ruhr is moving into its next phase. Following the start of exterior works in October, interior construction in the western wing is set to begin in December 2025 across both retail levels.

The scope includes demolition and reconstruction of the future premises for anchor tenants Kaufland, Müller, and the remodeled McFIT, as well as structural preparation for the reconfigured upper-floor mall layout.

“With this stage of construction, we are taking another decisive step toward a modern, future-oriented RRZ. The upcoming measures will establish the structural foundation for the new anchor tenants and the updated center layout,” says Olaf Ley, CEO Retail Germany at Eurofund.

Arnold Hülskamp, Head of Project Management at the TKS Group, adds: “The modernization of Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum is a significant project for the entire region, and we are proud to contribute our expertise to this central development.”

The TKS Group, based in Borken, has been commissioned to execute the next construction phase in area E1 and the demolition work in E2. Acting on behalf of the landlord, the company is responsible for completing the structural groundwork for the new units.

In total, the project encompasses more than 20,000 square meters.

The contract value for this phase amounts to several tens of millions of euros and forms part of the overall investment of approximately €180 million.

The construction phase is planned to run from December 2025 to July 2026. During this period, the West Mall will be closed on both levels. While access routes will change, with the western section of the center being reachable through designated entrances.

Completion of these works in summer 2026 will mark another major milestone in the modernization. RRZ thus continues its comprehensive renewal, gradually enhancing the site’s attractiveness and long-term viability.
