Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield currently operates 23 centers in the Germany and Austria region: 21 in Germany, eight of them in the Group’s own portfolio, and two in Austria. A total of 732 leases were concluded for these 23 centers last year. In addition, the mixed-use project Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, which is being developed by URW in Hamburg’s HafenCity until spring 2024, also experienced a lot of activity in 2022. The pre-letting rate for the retail, dining, and leisure sectors is now 73 percent.

Another food & beverage offering has been added to the Westfield Centro promenade: the BigChefs restaurant brand opens its second branch in Germany and becomes one of the new flagships of the food & beverage brand mix at the location. With the new addition, Westfield Centro has achieved full occupancy for the promenade located directly at the center with around 15 dining concepts.

Despite all challenges, a lot is happening in the retail real estate industry and great projects are in the making. This is best illustrated by the entries for the MAPIC Awards 2022 category “Best performing Shopping Center”. They include assets such as shopping centers, outlets, and retail parks. They show innovation through new technologies, customer loyalty programs, retail mixes and architectural features which come together for the aim of increasing footfall, customer satisfaction, average spending and offering a unique experience in a new shopping destination. All these outstanding projects demonstrate the strength, innovation, and positivity of our industry.

The Spanish fashion company Zara will open a new store with a flagship format in Minto in Mönchengladbach in the first quarter of 2023 on around 3,000 sq m of rental area. Zara will realise the brand’s latest design concept. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, owner and operator of Minto, and Inditex are once again strengthening their strategic partnership in Germany through the new cooperation in Mönchengladbach.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Germany is expanding its cooperation with Sheltersuit Foundation and local aid organizations, which was launched in the fall of 2021. As part of a support initiative starting on October 10, 2022, in nine shopping centers operated by URW, the aim is to draw attention to the particularly difficult situation of people living on the streets in winter and to offer immediate support.

The store is expected to open in 2023 and will be the first in Hamburg to feature the “New
Med” image. It represents another key partnership for the fashion and lifestyle segment of the future
flagship destination in Hamburg’s HafenCity.

VIA Outlets has announced two senior additions to its Board of Directors. Jaap Tonckens, currently an advisor to the Board, was recently appointed as a Non-Executive member of the Board, whilst Rita Schroeven, the company’s Head of Legal Affairs, is taking up a role as an Executive member of the Board.
