International premium ice-cream brand, Gelato Divino, is entering the UK shopping centre market for the first time as it opens its retail unit at intu Derby.

Originally a small family-owned ice-cream shop in Italy, Gelato Divino has expanded rapidly since its launch in 2009. The retailer now has over 50 stores in the United Arab Emirates, and has set its sights on expanding across the UK.

Nick Round, regional managing director for intu, said: “intu Derby is the perfect location for Gelato Divino to kick off their UK expansion, as the centre offers a compelling blend of retail, catering and leisure with exciting brands including Hollywood Bowl and Paradise Adventure Golf. The premium ice-cream brand is a great addition to the centre’s vibrant mix where customers can shop, eat and be entertained all under one roof.”

Mintel Global News Products Database shows a 95 percent increase in global gelato introductions from July 2011 – June 2016, indicating that the popularity of gelato is spreading globally, with a strong demand in European markets for it to be made more widely available.

Nicolas Reincke, founder and managing director for Gelato Divino, said: “We know from our own experience just how popular gelato is and there is a strong demand in the UK, so our store at intu Derby is the perfect place for us to reach millions of customers each year. All of our ingredients are based on our traditional Italian recipes from Alba in Italy, and is produced fresh each day in Derby using no artificial flavors or preservatives, so there really is something for everyone.”

With over one million sq ft of space and a dynamic retail and leisure mix, intu Derby continues to attract new and existing brands to the centre for the first time.
