UNIQLO has opened its doors at Westfield Centro, bringing its signature LifeWear concept to the Ruhr region and setting a clear marker for the destination’s retail mix.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) is once again strengthening the attractiveness of the shopping and leisure destination in North Rhine-Westphalia: for this purpose, rental areas of anchor partners are being comprehensively expanded to establish flagship formats and, at the same time, new brands are being brought on board to further diversify the product range at the center. In this context, Westfield Centro is also announcing several market entries in Germany. A number of the new partners are also placing a particular focus on sustainability in their business model.

RESERVED is continuing its flagship store expansion and will open a store at Westfield Centro in mid-2025. As part of LPP SA, one of the fastest growing fashion companies in Europe, RESERVED is pursuing the goal of being represented in the most important shopping centers in Germany.

Zara is relocating within the shopping and leisure destination and significantly expanding its presence: Through extensive construction measures, a flagship store with 6,000 sq m of rental area is being created on a central axis on the ground floor of Westfield Centro. The opening is planned for the first half of 2025. Until then, Zara will continue to operate its current store in the center. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) and Inditex are once again strengthening their strategic partnership in Germany with this new cooperation.

Another food & beverage offering has been added to the Westfield Centro promenade: the BigChefs restaurant brand opens its second branch in Germany and becomes one of the new flagships of the food & beverage brand mix at the location. With the new addition, Westfield Centro has achieved full occupancy for the promenade located directly at the center with around 15 dining concepts.

The fruit gummies and licorice specialist opened its tenth Haribo Deutschland store on 212 sq m at Westfield Centro in Oberhausen. In addition to the well-known products and merchandise, customers can look forward to a candy bar with a pick & mix station.

A new Youseum venue is set to open at Westfield Centro in Oberhausen this fall, expanding their portfolio in Europe. The social media experience will cover more than 1,000 sq m.

In November 2021, the Dutch arcade game operator Gamestate will open its first branch in Germany in Westfield Centro on an area of over 700 square meters. Over 45 arcade stations will then enable visitors to prove their skills at the latest virtual arcade products or popular gaming classics. Gamestate is another highlight in the center’s leisure and entertainment segment and once again demonstrates the international appeal of the location.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield and the future operator Explorado Group will open the new EXPOHALLE on the promenade of Centro in Oberhausen in March 2020. The approx. 2,800 sq m hall will be a platform for various events, leisure and entertainment exhibitions. The first highlight will be a multisensory and interactive exhibition of the “Smurfs”, which has already made successful stops in Paris and Brussels.

On July 11, Centro Oberhausen celebrated the completion of the two-year modernization project. Together with partner CPP Investment Board, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield invested around 20 million euros in the refurbishment. Half of the investment sum went into the core of the revitalisation, the redesign of the Coca-Cola Oase food court.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) currently operates 21 assets in the German and Austrian region: 19 in Germany, eight of which are in the Group’s own portfolio, and two in Austria. Last year, a total of 714 rental contracts were closed for these 21 assets. The average vacancy rate for the core locations in the portfolio around Westfield Centro in Oberhausen, Ruhr Park in Bochum, as well as Westfield Shopping City Süd in Vösendorf in Greater Vienna and Westfield Donau Zentrum in Vienna, is less than two percent.

A select expert jury including industry leaders and members of the Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) management team chose Airpaq, which creates upcycled products such as backpacks and bags from car parts, as the big winner of the Westfield Grand Prix 2023. The Community’s Choice Award was presented to CleanlyEco, which produces sustainable washing strips. The awards evening took place at the shopping and leisure destination Westfield Centro in Oberhausen.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield currently operates 23 centers in the Germany and Austria region: 21 in Germany, eight of them in the Group’s own portfolio, and two in Austria. A total of 732 leases were concluded for these 23 centers last year. In addition, the mixed-use project Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, which is being developed by URW in Hamburg’s HafenCity until spring 2024, also experienced a lot of activity in 2022. The pre-letting rate for the retail, dining, and leisure sectors is now 73 percent.
